Hellozer...
Now it's time to check Mr. Alex D'elia, from Frequenza Records!
01. Tell us about you ... how you discover the music, and where you start?
"I’m Alex D’elia, I was born in riccione, in italy, which is the main center, near to rimini, of the Italian clubbing scene. I recently started my techno label which is called Frequenza Records, in the beginning of this year (2009) and is growing up very fast! I discovered music digging between my sister’s records, old 80’s records playing them on our turntable at home when I was 10 or 11. I started with My first performances at about 13 yo with competitions and djbattles, then I started in a small club in Ravenna when I used to play the afternoons evey weekend."
02. How would you characterize your style?
"I make techno and usually I like also to explore tech house and more melodic and trippy sounds. Techno above all, by the way..."
03. Consider that Frequenza Records was the fulfillment of a dream?
"Frequenza it’s a start point to begin to realize my real dream, not really its fulfillment. Of course it’s still a great mean to express ourselves and our music and tastes in a good way."
04. In your opinion, who is the true "father" of the international techno scene?
"It’s Derrick May! He recently gave us his feedback to our new label Frequenza Limited’s first release, and this made us very proud."
05. Tell us what were the five festivals where you most like to play:
"Love Parade, Sensation White, I Love Techno, Timewarp, Amore here in Rome."
06. Tell us what were the five clubs where you most like to play:
"Cocoon, I always love to come back to Cocoricò in Riccione, Tresor, Watergate, and Fuse."
07. You consider that techno is a culture? Characterize it…
"Yes techno is a culture of course, a way to express your feelings, one of the most powerful genres in dance music, always great to the dancefloor, it’s a lifestyle which is able to remove barriers and create link among the youth but still a nice way to have fun for the grown up crowds too."
08. Tell us something about your future projects…
"In june Frequenza will release its 4th release with the official license from the King street sounds to rework the great classic Johnny Dangerous – Problem #13 (Beat that bitch). The project will be released as Alex D’elia & Da Lukas vs Johnny Dangerous – Beat That bitch 2009 remixes, and will involve also my friends Andrea Doria, Da Lukas, Nihil Young and John Lagora. Then I’m coming out with a new release on the label Capsula Especial, made with my studio-mate Nihil Young, another release with Nihil Young on 3rd wave music, and loads of other releases on Frequenza and remixes to other labels! Oh and of course at the end of may will be released a special remixes edition of the minimal hit Monoturn, by our german friend Broombeck on Big City Beats tec."
09. Do you prefer an artist who chooses the old-school [like Villalobos] or who opts for the cutting edge of technology [like Richie Hawtin]?
"I go for the oldschool. Technology is a great thing to music of course but seems like it’s ruining its culture a bit. Even if I enjoy tools like Traktor, which of course are great things, I always love to play with vinyl."
10. What are the artists with whom you most like to work?
"Recently I already worked with one of my greatest techno heros, I am so proud I worked with John Acquaviva, who is one of the biggest legends in the electronic/dance music movement. Of course I’d like to work with artists like Adam Beyer, Stephan Bodzin… woah, I don’t know, there are a lot of big artists out there!"
B.Q. Do you like projects like Techno Minimal Senses? Why?
"I love projects like this, they are always useful to develop the movement, spread information and allow artists/djs and labels to present themselves to the techno fans. I'd love to see much projects like this with pro guys like you, full of love and passion for the techno movement."
amazing artist + amazing label = amazing work!
*Special thanks to Nihil Young, Alex D'elia, and Frequenza Records.
